The City has strengthened its environmental initiatives with the installation of a new wastewater treatment facility at Cogon Market, officially turned over in a ceremonial event on Tuesday, October 7, 2025.

The turnover was attended by Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) Regional Director Reynaldo S. Digamo, Atty. Marianne Ragas, department manager of the City Economic Enterprises and Business Development Administration, Majority Floor Leader City Councilor Edgar Cabanlas—chairman of the Committee on Economic Enterprise—and other members of the 21st City Council.

In his message, Director Digamo lauded the City government for complying with the provisions of Republic Act 9275, or the Philippine Clean Water Act of 2004, by establishing a wastewater treatment facility in the public market. He emphasized that such efforts are crucial in maintaining environmental protection and promoting public health.

City officials underscored that public health remains a top priority, and despite financial challenges, efforts continue to ensure that city markets are equipped with proper wastewater treatment systems.

The Cogon Market is now the second market in the city to have its own wastewater treatment facility, following the Carmen Market, which was inaugurated in July this year.

Also present during the ceremony were department managers from various city offices, barangay leaders, and officials of the Cogon Market United Vendors Association.
