San Miguel, Surigao del Sur — The Local Government Unit (LGU) of San Miguel, in partnership with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), has formally awarded residential lots and cash assistance to five Friends Rescued (FR) beneficiaries as part of continuing peace and reintegration efforts in conflict-affected communities.

The awarding ceremony, held recently, was attended by Mayor Michael Corilla, whose administration has been pushing for sustained peace-building initiatives in the municipality. Captain Robert James V. Esprescion, Civil-Military Operations (CMO) Officer, and Sergeant Marjon D. Apolinario joined the FR beneficiaries in receiving the assistance.

Mayor Corilla underscored the LGU’s commitment to supporting former rebels who have returned to the fold of the law. “We are committed to building a peaceful and inclusive community. This assistance is a concrete step in helping our Friends Rescued brothers and sisters to start anew and live with dignity,” he said.

The benefits were provided under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP), a national initiative that offers shelter, livelihood, and psychosocial support to former rebels in collaboration with government agencies and local stakeholders.

Lt. Col. Joselito B. Ante Jr. emphasized the AFP’s dedication to reconciliation, noting, “We are here not just as soldiers but as partners in peace. Through programs like E-CLIP and the support of our LGUs, we help ensure that every FR has a chance to rebuild their lives and contribute to the community.”

The event highlighted the unity of the LGU, the AFP, and local communities in sustaining peace and reintegration, signaling hope and transformation for those choosing a new path in life.
