Pigcawayan, Cotabato — The intensified anti-smuggling campaign of the Cotabato Police Provincial Office (CPPO) led to the confiscation of over ₱60,000 worth of smuggled cigarettes and the arrest of a vendor during a saturation drive at the public market in Pigcawayan on September 24, 2025.

Personnel of the Pigcawayan Municipal Police Station (MPS) and the Provincial Intelligence Unit (PIU) carried out the operation at Barangay Poblacion 3, targeting smuggling activities in the area.

The suspect, identified only as alias “Bobby,” 19, a vendor and resident of Barangay Poblacion 2, was apprehended after being caught in possession of cigarette products without the mandatory graphic health warnings, a violation that confirmed the items were smuggled.

Recovered from him were one box containing 50 reams of Tradition cigarettes, 14 reams of New Berlin, six reams of New Far White, five reams of New Far Red, one ream of Fort, and one ream of Buffon cigarettes. The seized contraband carried an estimated market value of ₱60,506.60.

Authorities brought the suspect and confiscated items to Pigcawayan MPS for documentation and proper disposition. Coordination with the Bureau of Customs (BOC) has been initiated for turnover and legal action.

“Smuggling is a serious crime that damages legitimate businesses and deprives the government of much-needed revenues. PRO 12 will remain steadfast in its campaign to stop the proliferation of smuggled products and hold violators accountable,” said PBGEN Arnold P. Ardiente, Regional Director of Police Regional Office (PRO) 12.
