Laguindingan, Misamis Oriental – Authorities intercepted 13 individuals, including a minor, in Laguindingan town after they were reportedly engaged in illegal small-scale mining activities in Barangay Limonda, Opol, Misamis Oriental.

According to initial reports, the group was apprehended while traveling from the mining site. The operation was conducted after authorities received information about the alleged unauthorized mining in the area.
The 13 suspects, among them a minor, were immediately turned over to proper authorities for documentation and investigation. The presence of the minor raised further concern among law enforcers regarding child labor and safety violations.
Local officials reminded the public that mining operations without the necessary permits are prohibited under Philippine law, stressing the environmental and safety risks such activities pose to communities.
Authorities are now coordinating with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and social welfare agencies to determine possible charges against the adults involved and to ensure the protection and welfare of the minor.
