Authorities seized an estimated PhP 1.7 million worth of suspected shabu and apprehended an alleged high-value individual (HVI) during a buy-bust operation in Barangay Patani, Marawi City on Friday, August 2.

The suspect, identified only as alias “Manap,” a 44-year-old businessman from Tamparan, Lanao del Sur, was arrested after weeks of surveillance based on intelligence reports linking him to the illegal drug trade in the area.

Operating units from the Lanao del Sur Police Provincial Office and the Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (PDEU) carried out the sting operation that led to the confiscation of suspected shabu valued at PhP 1,700,000.00.

On-site inventory and markings of the seized items were conducted in the presence of barangay officials and a representative from the Department of Justice, in accordance with standard procedures.

The confiscated drugs are now in police custody and will undergo forensic analysis. Meanwhile, the suspect is currently detained at the Marawi City Police Station and will face charges under Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

PBGEN Jaysen C. De Guzman, Regional Director of Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO BAR), lauded the swift action of the operating units. He reaffirmed PRO BAR’s commitment to curbing the drug menace in the region.

“Our fight against illegal drugs continues with intensity. We will remain relentless in pursuing those who seek to destroy lives and communities,” De Guzman stated.
