OZAMIZ CITY – A 56-year-old construction worker was killed in a hacking incident in Purok 3, Barangay Tabid, on Tuesday, August 26, after a drinking session turned violent.

The victim, identified as Edwin Daing, who lived with his partner in the same barangay, sustained fatal injuries after being attacked with a bladed weapon by two men he had earlier been drinking with.

Barangay officials and members of the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team (BPAT), along with personnel from the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO), City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), and Ozamiz City Police, quickly responded to the incident. With the help of witnesses, authorities launched a hot pursuit operation.

By 10:20 a.m., police arrested the two suspects:

  • Alias Dagul, 20, a laborer from Purok 4, Barangay Tabid
  • Alias Tikwi, 28, a mechanic from Purok 2, Barangay Tabid

Initial police investigation revealed that Daing and the suspects had been drinking at a nearby store when an argument broke out due to intoxication. When Daing went home, the two suspects allegedly followed him and attacked him with a machete.

The suspects are now under police custody while further investigation is underway.
