Tboli, South Cotabato – Government forces successfully recovered 16 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) hidden in Sitio Bagong Silang, Barangay Maan, Tboli, South Cotabato on August 20, 2025, in a major security operation led by the 105th Infantry (Saifullah) Battalion under the operational control of the 603rd Infantry (Persuader) Brigade.

The IEDs, believed to have been manufactured between 2016 and 2017 by members of Guerilla Front 72 of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG), were previously used in tactical offensives against government troops in the area. Authorities said the discovery and recovery of the explosives prevented potential attacks that could have endangered both soldiers and civilians.

Lieutenant Colonel Erikzen C. Dacoco, Commander of the 105IB, credited former CTG supporters who provided crucial information that led to the recovery. He said their cooperation reflects a growing commitment to peace and stability in the community.

“The recovery of the explosives thwarted CTG’s hostile plans and significantly reduced their capacity to conduct attacks, ensuring the safety of both security forces and local communities,” Dacoco said.

Brigadier General Michael A. Santos, Commander of the 603rd Infantry Brigade, lauded the operation, stressing the importance of the partnership between the military and local residents in safeguarding peace in South Cotabato.

“The successful operation clearly demonstrates our collective determination to prevent the CTGs from instilling fear and violence in the community,” Santos said. “Rest assured that the unit will remain steadfast and relentless in protecting the treasured peace in the province, upholding the rule of law, and ensuring full compliance with International Humanitarian Law in all its operations.”

The recovered IEDs are now in the custody of the 105IB for proper disposition.
