Isulan, Sultan Kudarat — July 28, 2025 — Troops from the 7th Infantry (Tapat) Battalion of the Philippine Army discovered a cache of high-powered firearms during a clearing operation in a remote compound in Sitio Kimondo, Barangay Lagandang, Isulan, Sultan Kudarat.

Led by Lieutenant Colonel Tristan Rey P. Vallescas INF (GSC) PA, the operation was conducted under the operational control of the 603rd Infantry (Persuader) Brigade. The deserted compound was reportedly associated with a certain Mutin Ali.

Among the weapons recovered were:

  • Two (2) fabricated caliber .50 rifles
  • One (1) fabricated M79 grenade launcher
  • Three (3) fabricated rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) launchers
  • Two (2) RPG ammunition (anti-tank rounds)

According to LTC Vallescas, the weapons were concealed inside a sack filled with stones—likely in an attempt to hide or dispose of them discreetly.

“These firearms could have been used to sow fear and disrupt the peace we are striving to protect. I commend the unwavering commitment and vigilance of Tapat Troopers in ensuring that these firearms were safely recovered,” said LTC Vallescas in a statement.

Brigadier General Michael A. Santos PA, Commander of the 603rd Infantry Brigade, praised the unit’s swift action and underscored the role of community support in maintaining peace and security in the region.

“We will continue to intensify our focused military operations to deny lawless elements any chance to impose threats. I urge our communities to remain vigilant and work hand-in-hand with us in eliminating the tools of violence such as these loose firearms, and in safeguarding our treasured peace in Sultan Kudarat,” said BGen Santos.

The recovered firearms are currently under the custody of the 7IB for proper documentation and disposition as authorities work to trace their origin and intended use.
