BAYOG, Zamboanga del Sur – A 33-year-old farmer was arrested for illegal possession of a firearm late Thursday evening, June 19, 2025, in Barangay Matin-ao, Bayog town.
According to authorities, the arrest was made at exactly 11:11 PM after police received a report about a suspicious man loitering near the local covered court with what appeared to be a knife handle protruding from his sling bag.
Responding swiftly, personnel from the Bayog Municipal Police Station (MPS), in coordination with the 53rd Infantry Battalion Bravo Company of the Philippine Army, conducted an on-the-spot body search of the suspect. Recovered from his possession were a 9mm pistol loaded with seven live rounds and a double-bladed knife.
The suspect, who was not identified in the initial report, failed to present any legal documents or license authorizing him to carry the firearm.
He is now in the custody of the Bayog MPS, and charges for violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, are being prepared against him.
The Philippine National Police emphasized its commitment to strictly implementing laws on firearms and ensuring the safety of the community.
