Payao, Zamboanga Sibugay — May 1, 2025 — A joint law enforcement operation and community engagement initiative led by the Payao Municipal Police Station (MPS) and the 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company of the Zamboanga Sibugay Police Provincial Office (ZSBPPO) resulted in the voluntary surrender of several unregistered firearms in Barangay Kulasian on April 30.
Two barangay officials and one resident turned over a total of five unlicensed firearms to authorities. The surrendered items included:
- Two (2) caliber .38 revolvers
- One (1) caliber .22 revolver
- One (1) caliber .357 revolver
- One (1) homemade 12-gauge shotgun
All firearms lacked serial numbers and ammunition and have since been turned over to the Payao MPS for proper disposition.
PCOL Barnard Danie V. Dasugo, Provincial Director of ZSBPPO, praised the successful outcome of the initiative, stating, “This successful operation demonstrates the positive impact of community engagement and the willingness of residents to work with law enforcement to ensure a safer community.”
He also commended the participating police units and the individuals who chose to surrender their firearms, saying, “This action exemplifies responsible citizenship and a commitment to peace and security.”
Authorities reiterated that the campaign to recover loose firearms is part of ongoing efforts to prevent gun-related violence and maintain order in the province.
