Iligan City, May 23, 2025 — Authorities apprehended a 21-year-old woman for illegally offering dental services online during an entrapment operation conducted by the Lanao del Norte Provincial Cyber Response Team (LDN PCRT) around 12:30 PM today.
The suspect, identified only by her alias “Shaira,” was arrested after she was caught posing as a licensed dentist and accepting clients through social media platforms. Law enforcement agents posed as patients in a sting operation that led to her arrest.
According to the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP ACG), “Shaira” is facing charges for violating Section 33 of Republic Act No. 9484, also known as the Philippine Dental Act of 2007, in connection with Section 6 of Republic Act No. 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
Brigadier General Bernard R. Yang, Acting Director of the PNP ACG, praised the swift action of the cyber response team. “The PNP ACG reminds everyone to always verify the credentials of professionals before availing of their services to avoid potential harm. If you encounter individuals offering illegal services online, report them immediately to the nearest ACG office so we can take immediate action,” Yang said.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine if there are other individuals involved in the operation. The PNP also emphasized the risks posed by unlicensed dental practitioners, which include infections, improper treatments, and long-term health complications.
The arrest underscores the growing concern over the use of digital platforms to promote unauthorized services and the commitment of law enforcement to curb such illegal activities through cyber operations.
