Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur — In a major stride towards ensuring public safety ahead of the upcoming elections, the Philippine National Police (PNP) apprehended four armed individuals during a joint law enforcement operation on the evening of May 9, 2025, in Barangay Bomba, Pagadian City.
The suspects, all residents of Barangay Poloyagan, were arrested around 9:40 p.m. during a coordinated “Oplan Bakal Sita” and police visibility operation. According to authorities, the individuals were riding two motorcycles when they were flagged down by operatives as part of routine security checks. Police officers noticed firearms visibly tucked into the suspects’ waistbands, prompting an immediate inspection.
Upon verification, the four failed to present any documentation proving legal ownership or permits for the firearms in their possession. Confiscated from them were the following:
- One unit of caliber .45 pistol (Colt)
- One unit Colt MK IV caliber .45 pistol
- Two units ARMSCOR 9mm pistols
The operation was carried out through the combined efforts of the Pagadian City Police Station, Zamboanga del Sur Police Provincial Office, the 1st Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Mobile Force Company, and the 55th Special Action Company of the Special Action Force.
Charges are now being prepared against the suspects for violation of Republic Act No. 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, in relation to the Omnibus Election Code.
The incident underscores the commitment of Police Regional Office 9 (PRO 9) to curb the proliferation of illegal firearms and suppress criminal activities, especially during the election period.
Police Brigadier General Roel C. Rodolfo, Regional Director of PRO 9, lauded the participating units for their swift and effective action.
“I commend the Zamboanga del Sur Police Provincial Office and all participating units for their vigilance and dedication. This operation sends a strong message to those intending to disrupt peace and order: PRO 9 is fully committed to combating illegal activities and ensuring the safety of our communities,” Rodolfo said.
The PNP’s campaign aligns with the national directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to foster a safer and more disciplined society. Police General Rommel Francisco D. Marbil, Chief PNP, echoed the call for continued vigilance and heightened security measures.
As election day nears, authorities urge the public to remain alert and report any suspicious activities to help maintain peace and order across the region.
