May 16, 2025 – Marawi City — Tragedy struck the city early this morning as the owners of a well-known eatery, B&E Inasal, were found dead inside their establishment in Sarimanok, Marawi City. The victims were identified as Bairah Sangcaan Monte and Usodan Hadjicaya Monte, a married couple known to the local community.

According to initial reports, the bodies of the couple were discovered by a responding officer around 7:00 AM, following a tip from concerned citizens. Police later confirmed that the suspects behind the gruesome killing were believed to be the couple’s own helpers, who had been working at the restaurant.

The Marawi City Police Station (MCPS) has launched a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident. Authorities have already released the bodies to the bereaved family, who confirmed that the suspects were indeed the couple’s helpers.

Marawi City Mayor Majul U. Gandamra has called on the police to determine the motive behind the killing and to swiftly identify and file appropriate charges against those responsible.

In a statement, Police Lieutenant Colonel Muhidin Pagayawan, officer-in-charge of MCPS, extended his condolences to the family: “Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi rajiun” (“We surely belong to Allah and to Him we shall return”). He emphasized the Philippine National Police’s commitment to uncovering the truth: “The loss of life is always a matter of great concern. We are committed to ensuring that due process is followed in all aspects of the investigation.”

The MCPS has appealed to the public to avoid spreading unverified information while the investigation is ongoing. They also encourage anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist with the case.
