CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – A former high-ranking member of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) in Northern Mindanao voluntarily surrendered to authorities on April 22, 2025, marking another success in the government’s campaign for peace and reintegration.
The surrender took place at the headquarters of the Bukidnon 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC) in Purok Mauswagon, Barangay Pinamaloy, Don Carlos, Bukidnon. The individual, identified by his aliases “Tonying” and “Gon,” is a 28-year-old laborer from Sitio Sunnyday, Barangay Butong, Quezon, Bukidnon. He is married and formerly held multiple key positions in the CTG under Guerilla Front 6 (Coy Thunder), Sub-Regional Committee 2 of the North Central Mindanao Regional Committee (NCMRC).
Among his previous roles were ABE Team Leader and Squad Leader of Squad 2 under GF6, Vice Commanding Officer of GF Malayag, and Commanding Officer of SYP2 (LAHAR), GF6.
Authorities said “Tonying” had been involved in several armed encounters and harassment operations in Bukidnon. His decision to surrender was reportedly influenced by a former comrade who had earlier returned to the government’s fold. In deciding to surrender, he expressed his intention to clear his name and begin a new chapter in his life.
The surrender was facilitated through the collaborative efforts of intelligence personnel from the Bukidnon 2nd PMFC, DI-MAPIO, Quezon Municipal Police Station, Bukidnon Provincial Intelligence Unit (PIU), 1003rd Company of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 10 (RMFB10), and the Regional Intelligence Unit 10 (RIU10).
In addition to surrendering himself, the former rebel also turned over a .45 caliber 1911 Colt pistol bearing serial number 195122.
Police Brigadier General Jaysen C. De Guzman, Regional Director of Police Regional Office 10 (PRO10), lauded the coordination among security units that led to the surrender.
“This voluntary surrender is a testament to the growing trust of our fellow Filipinos in the government’s genuine efforts for peace and reintegration,” he said. “We continue to call on other members of the CTG to return to the folds of the law and live a life of peace and dignity.”
The former CTG member is currently under the custody of the 2nd PMFC for proper documentation and processing.
