In a province-wide effort to combat malnutrition, 26 children in Davao de Oro have regained a healthy weight and nutritional status after completing a 120-day nutrition program designed to improve their well-being.

The program, G-Works Para sa Wastong Nutrisyon, concluded with a ceremony on March 28 in Barangay Cabinuangan, New Bataan, highlighting its success in addressing childhood malnutrition.

Spearheaded by the Provincial Health Office Nutrition Section, the initiative provided food assistance, medical check-ups, and nutrition education to 27 child beneficiaries. Additionally, the program incorporated family planning lectures, backyard gardening, and minor house repairs to create a healthier environment for the children and their families.

Out of the 27 beneficiaries, 26 malnourished children successfully reached a healthier nutritional state, while one child, who maintained their status due to selective eating habits, will continue to be monitored to achieve a healthy weight.

Various offices under the Provincial Local Government Unit (PLGU) played a crucial role in ensuring the program’s success by adopting children in the program, providing food, clothing, and support throughout its 120-day implementation.

The PLGU also acknowledged the support of various national line agencies, including the PNP, DOST, DTI, DOLE, DILG, DepEd, NCIP, and Nabunturan Integrated Cooperative. Their commitment to nutrition has been instrumental in securing a healthier future for the children of Davao de Oro.
