Datu Salibo, Maguindanao del Sur – In a significant move towards ensuring peace and security, the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Datu Salibo, under the leadership of Hon. Acting Mayor Omar K. Ali, successfully facilitated the voluntary surrender of several loose firearms on March 19, 2025. The event, conducted in partnership with the League of Barangays, was part of ongoing efforts to curb the proliferation of unauthorized weapons within the municipality.
At 11:30 AM, with the assistance of PCPT Datumsa B. Mangalangkat, Acting Chief of Police of Datu Salibo Municipal Police Station (MPS), and 1LT Ronald Jackson C. Andress (INF) PA of Bravo Company, 6th Infantry Battalion, 601st Brigade, several firearms were turned over by concerned individuals from various barangays. The surrendered firearms included:
- One (1) 60mm mortar (Homemade) with serial number 1628862
- One (1) M79 Grenade Launcher (Homemade) with serial number 122558
- Two (2) US Rifles Cal 30M1, Springfield Armory, with serial numbers 898186 and D28287-185A A-10
These firearms were voluntarily surrendered by individuals from Barangays Sambulawan, Tee, and Pagatin. Specifically, one firearm came from Brgy. Sambulawan, one from Brgy. Tee, and two from Brgy. Pagatin. To ensure proper handling and accountability, barangay officials received the surrendered firearms before turning them over to local authorities.
The successful surrender of these weapons was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Municipal Peace and Order Council and the LGU of Datu Salibo. This initiative is a crucial step in reducing the presence of loose firearms in the community and fostering a safer environment for residents.
The surrendered firearms have been placed under the custody of the 6th Infantry Battalion, Philippine Army, stationed in Brgy. Buayan, Datu Piang, Maguindanao del Sur, for proper documentation and disposal.
Mayor Ali and local authorities continue to urge residents to cooperate with the government’s campaign against illegal firearms, emphasizing that voluntary surrender is vital in achieving long-term peace and security in the region.
