Camp Hon. Vicente L. Pimentel Sr., Tandag City – The Surigao del Sur Police Provincial Office (SDSPPO), under the leadership of Provincial Director PCOL Harry B. Domingo, successfully conducted a five-day comprehensive training program focused on Search and Rescue (SAR) operations. The training, held from March 10 to March 14, 2025, aimed to enhance emergency response capabilities in preparation for the upcoming 2025 National and Local Elections and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Parliamentary Elections (BARMM PE).
The initiative was a collaborative effort between SDSPPO and key national agencies, including the Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO). This inter-agency approach sought to ensure a coordinated and efficient response to potential emergencies that may arise before, during, and after the elections.
The intensive training program focused on strengthening the capabilities of law enforcement and disaster response teams in handling election-related emergencies, natural disasters, and accidents. Participants engaged in practical exercises and simulation drills, equipping them with the necessary skills to execute SAR protocols effectively.
“The safety and security of the public during the elections is our utmost priority. This training will ensure that all personnel involved in election-related operations have the skills and knowledge required for successful search and rescue missions. By working hand-in-hand, we will provide a swift and coordinated response to emergencies,” PCOL Domingo stated.
SDSPPO reaffirmed its commitment to fostering partnerships with both national and local agencies to enhance disaster preparedness and election security. The training underscored the significance of inter-agency coordination in safeguarding communities and ensuring rapid emergency response during critical situations.
With the 2025 National and Local Elections and the BARMM PE expected to be major national events, the SAR training served as a proactive measure to mitigate risks and address any unforeseen circumstances that may arise. The initiative highlights the importance of preparedness, ensuring that security and disaster response personnel are well-equipped to handle emergencies effectively and protect public safety.
