Siay, Zamboanga Sibugay – The Siay Municipal Police Station (MPS) promptly responded to a report from a concerned citizen regarding an alleged commotion involving an armed individual in Barangay Kimos at around 11:15 AM today, March 18, 2025. The rapid police action led to the arrest of an adult male for violating Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act) and the Omnibus Election Code.
Initial investigations revealed that the suspect was attending a wake when an altercation broke out between him and a retired army personnel. During the confrontation, the retired military member noticed a firearm tucked into the suspect’s waistband. Acting swiftly, he secured the weapon, identified as a Norinco CN M1911A1 .45 caliber pistol, loaded with five live rounds. The firearm was then turned over to the duty investigator of Siay MPS.
Following the incident, the responding police team launched a hot pursuit operation, successfully locating and arresting the suspect at his residence in Purok 1, Barangay Coloran, Siay. Authorities informed the suspect of his violations and constitutional rights before taking him into custody for proper disposition.
PCOL Barnard Danie V. Dasugo, Provincial Director, commended the vigilance of the community in reporting the incident. “The community’s cooperation is vital to the success of our crime prevention efforts. We remain committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring a peaceful and orderly province, especially as elections approach.”
