South Cotabato continues to strengthen its agricultural sector with the recent distribution of 10 Abaca Stripping Machines and 10 Cacao Processing Machines to farmers’ associations across the province. This initiative, led by Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo, Jr. and the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, aims to enhance productivity, improve product quality, and generate additional income opportunities for local farmers.
A total of 423 farmers from various associations in Lake Sebu and T’boli received the Abaca Stripping Machines. These machines are expected to streamline fiber extraction, increasing efficiency and reducing labor costs for abaca farmers. The improved processing capabilities will enable them to produce higher-quality fiber, which can command better market prices.
Meanwhile, 405 farmers from Polomolok, Koronadal, Tupi, Surallah, Tampakan, and Banga were the beneficiaries of the Cacao Processing Machines. These machines will help local cacao farmers process their harvest more efficiently, improving product value and competitiveness in the market.
Governor Tamayo emphasized the province’s commitment to empowering farmers and strengthening the local agricultural economy. By providing access to modern equipment, the provincial government seeks to enhance South Cotabato’s position as a key player in the cacao and abaca industries.
With continuous support from the local government, farmers in South Cotabato are expected to benefit from increased production and improved livelihoods, reinforcing the province’s reputation as an agricultural hub in Mindanao.
