CAMP ALAGAR, Cagayan de Oro City – Authorities in Northern Mindanao successfully intercepted PhP6.8 million worth of smuggled cigarettes in Brgy. Piraka, Sultan Naga Dimaporo, Lanao del Norte, on March 16, 2025.
The operation was carried out by personnel from the Sultan Naga Dimaporo Municipal Police Station (SND MPS), the 2nd Lanao del Norte Provincial Mobile Force Company (2nd LDN PMFC), the 1005th Company of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 10 (RMFB 10), and the Maritime Police Station – Lanao del Norte (MARPSTA-LDN).
At around 10:00 PM, police operatives conducting a mobile patrol in the area discovered 170 boxes of assorted brand smuggled cigarettes piled between the shoreline and the national highway. Residents in the area suggested that a certain individual known as “Acmad” might be responsible for the contraband.
The seized items were transported to the SND MPS for documentation and will be turned over to the Bureau of Customs for proper disposal.
PBGEN Jaysen C. De Guzman, Regional Director of Police Regional Office 10 (PRO10), commended the efforts of the operating units and reaffirmed the PNP’s commitment to combating smuggling activities in the region.
“This operation demonstrates our unwavering stance against illegal activities, especially smuggled cigarettes across the region. We will continue to intensify our enforcement efforts to curb smuggling, and we urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities,” he said.
Authorities continue to investigate the case to identify those behind the illegal shipment and prevent further smuggling operations in the region.
