Luuk, Sulu – A momentous chapter in the pursuit of peace unfolded on March 6, 2025, as the families of Sarbini Usman and Talib Samlahon formally ended their 18-year-old rido (clan feud). The historic settlement ceremony took place at the Kalingalang Caluang Municipal Hall in Barangay Pitogo, Kalingalang Caluang, Sulu, signifying a significant stride towards lasting harmony in the province.



The event was graced by key civilian and military dignitaries, underscoring the broad support for conflict resolution and peace-building initiatives in the region. Among those in attendance were Brig. Gen. Alaric Avelino P. Delos Santos, Commander of the 1102nd Infantry “Ganarul” Brigade; Col. Wilfredo B. Borgonia Jr., Executive Officer of the 1102nd Infantry Brigade; Lt. Col. Homer E. Estolas, Commanding Officer of the 21st Infantry Battalion; Hon. Nushamier Halun, Municipal Mayor of Kalingalang Caluang; Hon. Benshar Estino, Mayor of Panglima Estino; Hon. Peping Halun, Municipal Administrator of Kalingalang Caluang; Miss Rosemain Abduraji of Tumikang Samasama Inc.; Col. Sabri J. Lakibul, Commanding Officer of the 2nd Police Mobile Force Company; Lt. Brig. Gen. Delos Santos heralded the occasion as a pivotal moment for Sulu, emphasizing the role of dialogue, mediation, and community-driven solutions in resolving conflicts. “Today marks a significant milestone in our quest for lasting peace and stability in the province of Sulu. The settlement of this long-standing feud is a testament to the power of dialogue, mediation, and community-led initiatives in resolving conflicts and promoting peace. We are committed to supporting initiatives that promote peace and development, and we will continue to work with local communities to address the root causes of conflict,” he stated.
He further highlighted the crucial role of collaboration among security forces, local government units, and community leaders in achieving sustainable peace. “The settlement of this rido would not have been possible without the collective efforts of our security forces, local government units, and community leaders. We recognize the critical role that each of these stakeholders plays in promoting peace and stability, and we will continue to work together to build a more just and peaceful society.”
