BULUAN, Maguindanao del Sur – A fish vendor was shot and killed in broad daylight at the Buluan Public Market on Saturday, March 15, 2025, adding to the growing list of violent incidents in the area.
The victim, identified as Dhong Guiapal, was busy selling fish when an unidentified gunman approached and shot him in the head, instantly killing him. Similar to previous shooting incidents in Buluan, the assailant managed to escape immediately after the attack.
According to records from the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region and the 6th Infantry Division, a total of 13 individuals have been killed in a series of shootings in Buluan since the Commission on Elections (Comelec) implemented a gun ban on January 12, 2025, in preparation for the May elections.
Maguindanao del Sur currently has the highest number of violent killings in the Bangsamoro region over the past two months, despite the Comelec-imposed gun ban. Authorities are being urged to take urgent measures to curb the rising violence and ensure the safety of residents and market vendors in the province.
