Davao Oriental’s Provincial Government and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region XI continue their collaboration to provide livelihood opportunities for “friend-rescued” individuals who have reintegrated into society.
A meeting held today, March 17, at the Provincial Capitol focused on discussing and planning projects expected to receive funding for 2025. These include the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) and the Livelihood Settlement Grant (LSG) under the DSWD.
Led by Provincial Administrator Atty. Alejandro Aquino, representing Governor Niño Uy, along with provincial and DSWD officials, the initiative aims to create sustainable opportunities for former rebels. The goal is to help them lead peaceful lives while receiving support to improve their well-being, provide for their families, and contribute to the local economy.
According to the DSWD, the agency remains committed to working closely with the provincial government through the End Local Communist Armed Conflict (ELCAC) initiative. Through partnerships with other provincial offices and agencies, assessments and orientations will be conducted to ensure that former rebels in barangays across the province benefit from these programs.
Supporting Peace and Development Initiatives
Under the strong leadership of Governor Niño Uy, the Provincial Government is dedicated to maintaining peace and development, proudly upholding Davao Oriental’s status as an insurgency-free province. Key initiatives include livelihood programs, infrastructure development, healthcare services, agricultural and educational support, and other community empowerment efforts.
These initiatives form part of the province’s long-term strategy to promote economic growth and social welfare through continuous collaboration with local and national government agencies.
