Davao Oriental’s Commission on Elections (COMELEC) and security sector are ramping up their preparations to ensure a smooth, peaceful, and genuinely free election in the upcoming National and Local Elections on May 12, 2025.
During the first quarter meeting of the Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) on March 14, 2025, Provincial Election Supervisor Atty. Emelie Camaganacan outlined the extensive measures undertaken by COMELEC since last year to strengthen electoral readiness.
Among the key initiatives are roadshows and demonstrations of the Automated Counting Machines, training sessions for the Electoral Board, Board of Canvassers, and other election personnel. COMELEC has also conducted the Provincial Joint Security Control Center Convening and Coordinating Conference, launched checkpoints across the province, and implemented various strategies to uphold electoral integrity.
While COMELEC continues its election preparations, security forces are also reinforcing safety measures for voters and residents across the province. 701st Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Allan Jose Taguba, and Davao Oriental Police Provincial Office (DOPPO) Provincial Director, Police Colonel Julius Silagan, have committed their full support to maintaining peace and order throughout the election period.
According to the latest COMELEC data, Davao Oriental has 433,645 registered voters. These voters are distributed across 2,783 precincts within 555 clustered precincts and 245 voting centers across the province’s 183 barangays.
Since January 22, the election period has been in effect nationwide, with the official local campaign period set to begin on March 28.
Through the collective efforts of COMELEC, the military, police, and the public, the upcoming elections in Davao Oriental are expected to be peaceful, orderly, and credible for the welfare of the entire province.
