BASILAN – In a continuous effort to enhance child protection and strengthen mechanisms against trafficking and violence, the Provincial Orientation on the Local Council for the Protection of Children (LCPC) and the Local Committee on Anti-Trafficking and Violence Against Women and Their Children (LCAT-VAWC) – Audit was successfully conducted today, March 6, 2025.
The orientation gathered Local Social Welfare and Development Officers (LSWDOs), LCPC and LCAT-VAWC focal persons from Basilan’s 11 municipalities, one city, and the provincial government. The event aimed to equip participants with a deeper understanding of their roles in ensuring the functionality and effectiveness of their local councils and committees in safeguarding children and upholding the rights of women and other vulnerable groups.
A major highlight of the event was the discussion on the indicators for the LCPC and LCAT-VAWC functionality audits. These indicators serve as essential benchmarks in evaluating LGU performance in implementing child protection and anti-trafficking programs. Participants were guided through the audit process, compliance requirements, and strategies to improve their functionality ratings.
The orientation emphasized the crucial role of LGUs in strengthening local policies, programs, and services that protect children from abuse, exploitation, and neglect while also ensuring the prevention of trafficking and violence against women and children. By addressing the gaps identified in previous audits, LGUs are expected to enhance their governance mechanisms and service delivery.
This activity was successfully realized with the support of the Provincial Government, reinforcing its commitment to child protection and the fight against trafficking and violence. The event underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in ensuring safer communities for children and vulnerable groups in Basilan.
