March 27, 2025 – Tandag City, Surigao del Sur – In a joint operation against illegal drugs and loose firearms, authorities confiscated a firearm and suspected shabu in Cortes, Surigao del Sur. However, the target of the operation, identified as “Gildo,” managed to evade arrest.

Personnel from the Cortes Municipal Police Station (MPS), led by PCPT Chenise Llyod A. Sugian, in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), implemented a search warrant for violation of Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. The operation took place at around 1:50 AM at the suspect’s residence in Purok Bayabas, Barangay Burgos.

The suspect, a 32-year-old farmer and newly identified drug pusher, escaped upon sensing the presence of law enforcers. Despite his escape, authorities seized various items, including a heat-sealed plastic sachet containing 0.09 grams of suspected shabu, valued at PHP 612.00, and a .45 caliber pistol with accompanying magazines and ammunition. Other confiscated items included M16 and .22 caliber ammunition, drug paraphernalia, lighters, aluminum foils, and personal belongings.

The search was conducted in an orderly manner in the presence of the suspect’s wife, a Barangay Kagawad, and a Department of Justice (DOJ) representative. All confiscated items were taken to the Cortes MPS for proper disposition.

PCOL Harry B. Domingo, Provincial Director, emphasized the significance of the operation in maintaining public safety, especially amid the implementation of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Resolution 11067, which enforces the nationwide gun ban during the election period.

“This operation highlights the effectiveness of our joint efforts in upholding the law and preventing violence. We urge communities to continue supporting our campaign against illegal drugs and loose firearms,” Domingo stated.

Authorities continue to pursue the suspect, reaffirming their commitment to eradicating illegal drugs and firearms in the province.
