Bangsamoro Autonomous Region – The Police Regional Office Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO BAR) has apprehended 34 individuals for violating the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Gun Ban since its implementation on January 12, 2025. The ban is enforced under COMELEC Resolution No. 11067, which outlines regulations prohibiting the carrying, bearing, or transporting of firearms and other deadly weapons during the election period.
Among those arrested, 16 were apprehended at PNP/AFP COMELEC checkpoints, while 18 were captured during targeted police operations. Authorities also confiscated 36 firearms, 236 rounds of ammunition, 28 small arms, eight light weapons, and one explosive. These measures aim to prevent election-related violence and bolster security ahead of the 2025 National and Local Elections (NLE) and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Parliamentary Elections.
Legal cases have been filed against the suspects for violating the Omnibus Election Code. The COMELEC Gun Ban, in effect from January 12 to June 11, 2025, serves as a critical security measure. Violators face criminal charges under Republic Act No. 10591, which mandates penalties including imprisonment and disqualification from holding public office.
PBGEN Romeo J. Macapaz, Regional Director of PRO BAR, commended law enforcement personnel for their dedication to maintaining peace and order in the Bangsamoro Region. He urged the public to report any election-related violations or suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through official PRO BAR hotlines.
The cooperation between law enforcement agencies, stakeholders, and the community remains essential in ensuring free, fair, and secure elections in the Bangsamoro Region.
