Carmen, Cotabato – Three members of a family, including a father and his two children, were gunned down in a brazen attack on Saturday morning, February 1, 2025, in Purok 5, Barangay General Luna, Carmen, North Cotabato.
The victims were identified as Norhan Alim Makulintang Razak, 29, a farmer and a member of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF); his 17-year-old son, Umbra Guialil Makulintang, and his 8-year-old child, Norolan Balaitom Alim. All three were residents of Sitio Tubac, Barangay Pagangan, Aleosan, Cotabato, but had been temporarily staying in Barangay Bulod, Pikit, Cotabato.
Attack on the Road
According to an initial investigation by the Cotabato Police Provincial Office, the victims were riding a black Honda XRM motorcycle, bearing plate number 1101-899155, on their way to their corn farm in Barangay Simone, Kabacan, Cotabato when they were ambushed. A white minivan carrying unidentified assailants suddenly appeared and, without provocation, opened fire at them multiple times.
Authorities recovered six spent shell casings from an M16 rifle and two from a .45 caliber pistol at the crime scene, indicating the use of high-powered firearms in the attack.
Umbra Makulintang was rushed to the hospital for emergency medical attention but was later declared dead by attending physicians at 11:39 a.m. on the same day. Meanwhile, the father, Norhan Razak, and his youngest child, Norolan Alim, succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds at the scene.
Motive and Investigation
The police have identified two persons of interest in connection with the shooting, based on witness accounts. Further investigation revealed that the family had recently left their home in Sitio Tubac, Barangay Pagangan, Aleosan, Cotabato due to a personal dispute with the suspected assailants. They had been temporarily residing in Barangay Bulod, Pikit, Cotabato before the fatal incident.
A social media post by a user named Shaira Mar corroborated the police report, stating that the father and his two children were attacked while traveling together. Initially, it was reported that one of the children was still alive and taken to the hospital, but later updates confirmed all three had perished.
Pursuit operations are ongoing as authorities work to identify and apprehend the perpetrators behind this brutal attack. The police are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist in the investigation.
