The Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region XI (DENR-XI) has officially announced the reopening of trekking activities at the Mount Hamiguitan Range Wildlife Sanctuary (MHRWS), Mindanao’s only UNESCO World Heritage Site and ASEAN Heritage Park. After a year-long hiatus dedicated to the assessment and restoration of campsite facilities, adventurers can once again immerse themselves in the breathtaking landscapes and unique biodiversity of this protected area.

A Paradise for Trekkers
Starting this month, visitors can once again explore Mount Hamiguitan’s daring terrains, lush forests, and mesmerizing panoramic views. Home to a variety of endemic flora and fauna, including the iconic pygmy forest and the Philippine eagle, this UNESCO-listed site offers an unparalleled trekking experience. Whether you are an experienced mountaineer or an enthusiastic beginner, the trails of Mount Hamiguitan promise an unforgettable journey into nature’s heart.
Key Guidelines for Trekkers
To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience, the DENR-XI has released important guidelines for all visitors:
Bookings and Permits
- Trekkers must secure a permit by coordinating with the MHRWS Protected Area Management Office (PAMO) via email at mthamiguitan@denr.gov.ph.
- Required documents include a Medical Certificate (certifying fitness to climb), at least one Government-issued ID, and a signed waiver (provided by PAMO).
Fees and Discounts
- Regular Entrance Fee: Php 3,000.00 (covers a 3-day trek).
- Discounts are available for Davao Oriental residents, students, senior citizens, and members of the Mountaineering Federation of Southern Mindanao (MFSM) and the Outdoors Club Federation, Inc. of Davao Oriental (OCFDO).
Guiding and Porterage Services
- Tour guides are mandatory at a rate of Php 800.00 per day.
- Porter services are optional, charged at Php 800.00 per day (up to 15 kilos of baggage).
- Porter-guides are available for Php 1,500.00 per day.
- Additional baggage beyond 15 kilos will be charged Php 50.00 per excess kilo.
