Kidapawan City, February 7, 2025 – In a simple yet momentous ceremony, Kidapawan City celebrated a major environmental achievement—the successful planting of a sprawling forest canopy consisting of 2.5 million trees in less than two years. The initiative, aimed at preserving the natural environment for future generations, stands as a testament to the collective effort of the city’s residents and local government.
Nearly 90% of the trees planted are Philippine native species, while the remaining 10% include iron bamboo and fruit-bearing trees. This massive reforestation project not only enhances the city’s green landscape but also reinforces its commitment to environmental sustainability.
Expressing immense pride in this milestone, a local leader remarked, “If there is one accomplishment I am most proud of, it is this—planting trees in our mountains to protect our environment for the future generations.”
Beyond merely planting trees, the initiative aimed to establish a sustainable forest canopy that will provide ecological benefits, including improved biodiversity, enhanced climate resilience, and greater environmental protection.
“To the next generation, consider this as our gift to you,” the leader continued. “May you cherish this canopy and take good care of our environment. We, the present generation of Kidapaweños, tirelessly planted these trees so that you, the next generation, will enjoy the blessings that they bear.”
The event also served as a moment of gratitude, acknowledging the dedication of the many individuals and organizations who contributed to the success of this reforestation effort.
As Kidapawan City looks toward the future, this forest canopy stands as a lasting symbol of the community’s unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability.
God bless everyone, and thank you to all who contributed to the success of this endeavor!
