TABUAN LASA, BASILAN – Candidates from the municipalities of Tabuan Lasa and Maluso gathered on Monday to formally pledge their commitment to clean, honest, peaceful, and orderly elections in the upcoming 2025 National and Local Elections (NLEs) and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Parliamentary Elections. The event, known as the Peace Covenant 2025, was organized by the 101st Infantry “Three Red Arrows” Brigade, the Commission on Elections (Comelec), and the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Brigadier General Alvin Luzon, Commander of the 101st Infantry Brigade, emphasized in his address that the true essence of public service lies in integrity, commitment, and a genuine desire to uplift the community. He underscored that leadership is not about power but about responsibility and dedication to ensuring peace and progress for all.
The gathering highlighted the collective responsibility of all parties to uphold democratic processes and embrace a culture of peace. As Basilan prepares for the upcoming elections, the initiative aims to promote an environment free from violence, threats, and electoral misconduct.
Candidates expressed their commitment by affixing their signatures to the peace covenant, symbolizing their vow to conduct a principled and ethical campaign. The signing serves as a formal agreement to refrain from threats, intimidation, and fraud, ensuring that the electoral process remains fair and just.
Local authorities and election officials lauded the initiative, hoping it would set a precedent for future elections. With this pledge, stakeholders in Basilan are optimistic about fostering a peaceful and credible electoral process in 2025.
