Lebak, Sultan Kudarat – The 57th Infantry “MASIKAP” Battalion, under the leadership of LTC Aeron T. Gumabao INF (GSC) PA, successfully organized a Political Candidates’ Forum, a Peace Covenant Signing, and the Symbolic Presentation of Surrendered Firearms in a significant event held at the Municipal Gymnasium of Lebak.
The initiative, conducted in collaboration with the Philippine National Police (PNP), underscores the commitment of security forces in addressing the issue of loose firearms, often linked to violence and political unrest. The event also reinforced efforts to ensure safe, orderly, and peaceful elections in 2025.
During the ceremony, a total of 61 assorted loose firearms were voluntarily surrendered by members of the community. The breakdown of the surrendered weapons includes 27 from the 57th Infantry Battalion, 23 from the 2nd Sultan Kudarat Provincial Mobile Force Company, and 11 from the PNP Lebak Municipal Police Station.
The surrendered firearms were officially handed over to BGEN Michael A. Santos PA, Commander of the 603rd Infantry (Persuader) Brigade, in the presence of Hon. Frederick F. Celestial, Municipal Mayor of Lebak, and the Municipal Election Officer. This event highlighted the importance of cooperation between the AFP, PNP, and local government in restoring peace and security within the community.
In his address, BGEN Santos reaffirmed the military’s dedication to maintaining peace, especially in the upcoming elections. “As security sector members, we in the Armed Forces understand the importance of peaceful and orderly elections. Our mission is clear: to protect democracy by allowing citizens to exercise their rights freely without fear or intimidation. We stand firm in our commitment to uphold the law, prevent violence, and address any threats that may disrupt peace and stability. Our goal is to create a safer and stronger community for all residents,” he stated.
This collaborative effort is part of the broader campaign to reduce the presence of illegal firearms in communities, fostering an environment of security and trust among the people of Lebak. The initiative reflects the continuous pursuit of lasting peace and the shared responsibility of all stakeholders in promoting a violence-free society.
