Koronadal City, South Cotabato – On the morning of December 31, 2024, the South Cotabato Provincial Police Office (SCPPO) took a significant step in ensuring public safety by conducting the Ceremonial Destruction of Confiscated Firecrackers and Pyrotechnics. The event, held in front of the SCPPO Building in Barangay Morales, was spearheaded by PCOL Samuel T. Cadungon, Provincial Director of SCPPO.

The ceremony, which began at approximately 10:30 AM, was attended by key representatives, including PLTCOL Jeody Lito D. Guisinga, Deputy Chief of the Regional Community Affairs Division, PRO12. The event also saw the participation of personnel from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Koronadal City, the South Cotabato Provincial Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Canine Unit (SCPECU), and members of the South Cotabato Press Corps.

PLTCOL Guisinga delivered an inspiring message to kick off the event. He emphasized the importance of the destruction initiative in promoting public safety and community well-being. “Every year, countless individuals, including children, suffer injuries and even lose their lives due to the irresponsible use of dangerous firecrackers. By confiscating and destroying these prohibited items, we aim to prevent such tragedies and ensure a safer celebration for all,” he stated.

The SCPPO destroyed a total of 1,593 confiscated firecrackers, including 98 improvised PVC cannons, locally known as “BOGA.” These actions underscore the SCPPO’s commitment to upholding public safety and preventing the potential hazards associated with illegal firecrackers, particularly during the festive season.

Personnel from various agencies collaborated to ensure the smooth execution of the event. The Bureau of Fire Protection and the South Cotabato Provincial Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit played key roles in managing the proper disposal of the confiscated items.

“We are committed to raising awareness about the dangers of illegal firecrackers and promoting alternative means of celebration,” PLTCOL Guisinga added. “This initiative reaffirms our mission to protect the community and maintain peace and order in South Cotabato.”

The SCPPO’s proactive measures serve as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to create safer environments for communities to celebrate the New Year. The destruction of confiscated firecrackers not only prevents injuries but also highlights the importance of strict enforcement of laws regulating the use of pyrotechnics.

This annual initiative reflects the SCPPO’s steadfast dedication to safeguarding lives and fostering a culture of responsibility and safety among the public.
