Bayugan City, Philippines — Yesterday, in one of the most significant anti-drug operations in the history of the Caraga region, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Region XIII (PDEA RO XIII) and its partner agencies successfully confiscated 16 kilograms of methamphetamine hydrochloride, commonly known as shabu, with an estimated street value of Php108 million.
The operation was conducted at 6:40 AM in Purok 1, Barangay Sta. Irene, Bayugan City. The joint effort was spearheaded by PDEA RO XIII’s Agusan del Norte and Agusan del Sur Provincial Offices, with vital support from the Bayugan City Police Station and the Agusan del Sur Police Provincial Office’s Provincial Intelligence Unit (ADSPPO – PIU).
Authorities reported recovering 16 self-sealing plastic bags of methamphetamine concealed in packaging from local courier services. Among the confiscated items, two kilograms were designated as buy-bust items, while the remaining 14 kilograms served as evidence of possession. Additional items seized during the operation included five digital weighing scales, a glass pipe, assorted packaging materials, buy-bust money, and communication devices allegedly used in the suspects’ illegal activities.
PDEA RO XIII Regional Director Levi S. Ortiz commended the collaborative effort that led to the operation’s success. “This operation underscores the importance of multi-agency collaboration and community involvement in achieving impactful results in the campaign against illegal drugs. Our combined efforts reflect our shared commitment to protecting the community and ensuring a safer future for all,” he said.
The seized drugs and other evidence are now under PDEA RO XIII’s custody for proper disposition. The suspects apprehended during the operation will face charges under Sections 5 and 11, Article II of Republic Act No. 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Authorities reiterated their commitment to pursuing aggressive anti-drug initiatives while ensuring adherence to the rule of law and protection of human rights. PDEA RO XIII also emphasized the critical role of local government units, community organizations, and private stakeholders in sustaining the fight against illegal drugs.
“We urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to authorities. Through cooperation and shared responsibility, we can build a drug-free community for the people of Caraga and beyond,” the agency stated.
This operation serves as a testament to the effectiveness of coordinated anti-drug efforts and highlights the need for continued vigilance in combating the pervasive threat of illegal drugs in the region.
