Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity (OPAPRU) Secretary Carlito G. Galvez, Jr. has called on Malacañang and the Senate to promptly decide on the proposed postponement of the first Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Parliamentary elections.

In an interview with the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism (PCIJ), Galvez emphasized the importance of swift action by lawmakers. He noted that the decision is crucial to allow concerned agencies to prepare measures to maintain peace in the region and uphold its reputation as an “international model of peace.”

“I hope the Senate will see the urgency of this bill. They have to decide already on the resetting so that we can remove the impasse,” Galvez stated.

Congress has only four weeks left to pass and ratify the proposed measure before its session adjourns on February 7, ahead of the campaign period beginning on February 12.
