Zamboanga del Norte, Philippines – A high-value target (HVT) was apprehended during a buy-bust operation conducted by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Zamboanga del Norte Provincial Office in coordination with the Sergio Osmeña Municipal Police Station (MPS) – Municipal Drug Enforcement Team (MDET) and the Regional Drug Enforcement Unit (RDEU) 9. The operation occurred on January 23, 2025, at approximately 10:10 AM at the Sergio Osmeña Sr. Infirmary Facility in Barangay Biayon, Sergio Osmeña, Zamboanga del Norte.
The suspect, identified as Aldwin Lorejo Magcanta, 53, a resident of Barangay Poblacion Bajo, Sergio Osmeña, was taken into custody following the operation.
Authorities seized a total of 5 grams of suspected shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) with an estimated street value of Php34,000. The illegal drugs were divided into six heat-sealed plastic sachets. Additionally, approximately 1 gram of dried marijuana leaves worth Php120, wrapped in cigarette foil, was recovered. Other confiscated items included buy-bust money, an Oreo wrapper used to conceal the sachets of suspected shabu, and an Adidas sling bag containing the marijuana.
Magcanta is facing charges for violating Sections 5 (Sale of Dangerous Drugs) and 11 (Possession of Dangerous Drugs) under Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
The successful operation highlights the continued efforts of law enforcement agencies in the fight against illegal drugs. The authorities reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining peace and order in the region by targeting high-value individuals involved in drug-related activities.
