Camp Siongco, January 25, 2025 – A new chapter of leadership unfolded for the 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division (6ID) of the Philippine Army as Brigadier General Donald M. Gumiran officially took command during the 43rd Change of Command Ceremony held today.
Presided over by Lieutenant General Roy M. Galido, Commanding General of the Philippine Army, the ceremonial turnover marked the leadership transition from Lieutenant General Antonio G. Nafarrete, who now serves as the Commander of the Western Mindanao Command.
In his inaugural address, Brig. Gen. Gumiran expressed his gratitude to the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) for entrusting him with the division’s leadership. He pledged a collaborative and mission-driven approach to fulfill the 6ID’s objectives.
“As I assume command, I commit to leading by example and working closely with all of you to fulfill our mission. I humbly ask for your support, trust, and cooperation as we embark on this journey together. Let us always remember that our ultimate duty is to serve the Filipino people and protect the sovereignty of our nation,” said Brig. Gen. Gumiran.
A seasoned military officer, Brig. Gen. Gumiran has held various key positions in his career. Before his current assignment, he served as the commander of the 602nd Infantry (Liberator) Brigade in Cotabato Province. He also previously led the 7th Infantry Battalion, the 38th Infantry Battalion, and the 6th Division Training School. A native of Cabagan, Isabela, he is a member of the Philippine Military Academy “Tanglaw-Diwa” Class of 1992 and holds a Master’s Degree in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College, further equipping him for his new role.
Lieutenant General Galido commended the outgoing commander, Lt. Gen. Nafarrete, for his leadership and dedication to peace and security in Central and South-Central Mindanao. In his farewell remarks, Lt. Gen. Nafarrete reflected on his tenure with pride and gratitude, calling it a “bittersweet moment” and expressing appreciation for the support he received during his leadership.
The outgoing commander was honored with a Command Plaque for his exemplary contributions to the division and the region.
The ceremony was attended by senior officers of the Philippine Army, brigade and battalion commanders, former military officials, Philippine National Police counterparts, members of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Parliament, local officials, family members, media representatives, and other distinguished guests.
Brig. Gen. Gumiran now leads the Kampilan Division with a renewed commitment to upholding its mission of maintaining peace and security in its area of responsibility.
