CAMP SIONGCO, Awang, DOS, Maguindanao del Norte – May 5, 2025 — The campaign for peace in Maguindanao del Norte gained further ground as five more high-powered firearms were voluntarily surrendered to the 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division, Philippine Army on May 4 in Barangay Ambolodto, Datu Odin Sinsuat town.

According to Lt. Col. Robert T. Betita, Battalion Commander of the 1st Mechanized Battalion, the weapons were turned over following a series of clearing operations conducted by his troops in the barangays of Sibuto, Ambolodto, Kinebaka, Nekitan, Bongued, Kakar, and Bugawas.

The surrendered war matériel include one 5.56mm Bushmaster Carbine, one 60mm mortar, two Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) launchers, one 12-gauge shotgun, and one 9mm Uzi submachine gun.

Lt. Col. Betita said the surrender came after the military’s persistent appeal for residents to support peace initiatives and help in securing communities from the threats of armed violence.

Brigadier General Edgar L. Catu, Commander of the 601st Unifier Brigade, expressed his gratitude to those who heeded the call for peace.

“The voluntary surrender of weapons of war is a clear indication of our countrymen’s confidence in the government’s ability to protect and preserve their security,” said Brig. Gen. Catu. “There is no need to resort to violence — the Army stands as the people’s backbone for peace.”

Major General Donald M. Gumiran, Commander of the 6ID and Joint Task Force Central, reiterated his call to other armed individuals and groups to participate in the campaign for peace, especially with the upcoming elections.

“Every weapon of war placed in our custody is equal to a life saved — especially innocent civilians,” Maj. Gen. Gumiran stated. “As the elections approach, we must ensure that peace and order prevail in our communities.”

The Philippine Army continues to urge residents to work hand in hand with the government in building a safer, more peaceful, and progressive Mindanao.
