DATU UNSAY, Maguindanao del Sur – The Philippine Army’s 6th Field Artillery Battalion (6FAB) successfully conducted a Live Fire Exercise (LFX) on August 16, 2025, as the highlight of the Culmination Activity of its External Security Operations (ESO) Training in Datu Unsay, Maguindanao del Sur.

The exercise was spearheaded by Brig. Gen. Edgar L. Catu, Commander of the 601st Infantry (Unifier) Brigade, with meticulous planning led by Col. Marlo S. Jomalesa, Deputy Brigade Commander, to ensure the safety of both troops and residents.

The LFX aimed to test and demonstrate the readiness of artillery troops in delivering accurate and timely fire support to maneuver units of the 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division. Under the leadership of Lt. Col. Tara V. Cayton, 6FAB troops showcased precision, speed, and coordinated action using artillery weapons systems—key elements in maintaining battlefield advantage.

Among those who witnessed the activity were MP Rasul E. Ismael of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority – BARMM; Mr. Rasul N. Ebus, proprietor of Mamarich Resto; Ampatuan Mayor Datu Rasul M. Sangki; Datu Unsay Mayor Datu Andal S. Ampatuan; members of the media; and reservists from the 16th RCDG.

Lt. Col. Cayton described the exercise as both a culmination and a testament to the professionalism of the unit. “The Live Fire Exercise is not only the conclusion of our ESO Training but also a declaration of our preparedness to support maneuver units in securing the peace and safety of our communities,” he said.

In his address, Brig. Gen. Catu emphasized the broader importance of the drill. “This type of training not only strengthens our unit’s capabilities but also reaffirms our commitment to defend our communities against any threat. The excellence and dedication of our artillery troops stand as pillars of our operations,” he stressed.

Major General Donald M. Gumiran, Commander of the 6th Infantry Division and Joint Task Force Central, also lauded the battalion, highlighting the critical role of artillery in overall military operations. “The proficiency of our artillery troops serves as the foundation of our maneuver units’ success. Their skills and dedication enhance our mission to secure peace,” he remarked.

Through continuous training and modernized methods of instruction, the 6th Field Artillery Battalion remains steadfast and prepared to fulfill its mandate of maintaining peace and security across Central Mindanao.
