Authorities have confirmed the identity of one of the two bodies discovered buried in a cornfield in Purok 5, Barangay Baluntay, Alabel, Sarangani Province. The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-SarGen investigator, PCpl. Derix Ceballos, stated that the victim, identified as Jomar Ubpon, a resident of Polomolok, South Cotabato, was recognized through his clothing and a bracelet.
According to Ubpon’s family, he was last seen several months ago heading to Barangay Baluntay with a companion identified as Emmanuel Abad. They were reportedly traveling on a motorcycle for a transaction related to an illegal activity. Ubpon never returned home, prompting concerns about his whereabouts.
The discovery of the bodies came after two of four individuals arrested for illegal possession of firearms provided information about the burial site during questioning. Authorities believe the remains had been buried for approximately four months.
An initial investigation revealed that both victims were likely killed and buried in the cornfield. While Ubpon has been positively identified, the CIDG-SarGen is still verifying the identity of the second body. Investigators suspect it might be Abad, but confirmation is pending further forensic examination.
The CIDG-SarGen, in coordination with forensic experts and the Alabel Municipal Police Station, continues to piece together the events that led to the deaths. Investigators are also working to establish whether the suspects who revealed the burial site were directly involved in the killings.
Authorities are urging the public to come forward with any information that could help resolve the case. As investigations deepen, the CIDG remains committed to uncovering the truth behind this gruesome discovery and delivering justice for the victims and their families.
