South Ubian, Tawi-Tawi — A joint seaborne patrol conducted by the Tawi-Tawi Maritime Police Station (MARPSTA) and the Bureau of Customs (BOC) Sub-port Bongao on January 25, 2025, successfully intercepted a motor launch carrying alleged smuggled petroleum products off the coast of Barangay Likod, Tabawan, South Ubian.



The operation resulted in the seizure of a significant haul of petroleum products, including 2,600 liters of gasoline valued at PhP156,000.00 and 2,400 liters of diesel worth PhP132,000.00, with a combined estimated value of PhP288,000.00.
Authorities apprehended seven individuals who are now facing charges for violating Republic Act 10863, also known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act. The suspects, along with the seized petroleum products, are currently under the custody of Tawi-Tawi MARPSTA for documentation and further investigation. The confiscated items will subsequently be turned over to the Bureau of Customs for proper disposition.
This operation underscores the ongoing efforts of local law enforcement agencies and the Bureau of Customs to combat smuggling activities in the country’s maritime territories. The authorities reaffirmed their commitment to protecting the nation’s economic interests and ensuring compliance with customs laws.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the origin and intended destination of the smuggled petroleum products, as well as to uncover potential links to larger smuggling networks operating in the region.
