TUAL, President Quirino, Sultan Kudarat — The 2nd Mechanized Infantry (MAKASAG) Battalion of the Philippine Army’s Armor (Pambato) Division is strengthening its preparations to support the security requirements of the 2026 Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Parliamentary Elections within its area of responsibility.
Under the leadership of Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Raul P. Escat, the MAKASAG Battalion said it continues to coordinate with higher headquarters, local government units, law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders as part of efforts to help ensure that the electoral process is conducted in a safe, peaceful and orderly environment.
The preparations come as authorities and security forces across BARMM intensify efforts to safeguard the upcoming parliamentary elections, which are expected to draw significant attention across the region amid the importance of the Bangsamoro political transition and the exercise of democratic participation.
The battalion emphasized that its role in election security is not limited to maintaining peace and order. It also includes helping create conditions where voters can exercise their right to choose their leaders freely and safely, without fear, intimidation or undue influence.
For the Philippine Army, maintaining public confidence in the electoral process requires security personnel to remain professional, disciplined and impartial. The MAKASAG Battalion reminded its personnel to uphold the Constitution, existing laws and the mandate of the Armed Forces of the Philippines while observing strict non-partisanship throughout the election period.
The battalion also highlighted the importance of coordination among government agencies and communities. Through strengthened inter-agency cooperation, community engagement and a responsible security presence, soldiers are expected to work alongside partner agencies and local stakeholders to address security concerns and contribute to an environment conducive to peaceful political participation.
Election security in the Bangsamoro carries particular significance because of the region’s history of armed conflict, clan disputes and political tensions. Maintaining a neutral and professional security posture is therefore critical to ensuring that voters, candidates and other participants can take part in the electoral process without unnecessary threats or pressure.
The MAKASAG Battalion said it remains ready to perform its mandated duties in support of the 2026 BARMM Parliamentary Elections while respecting the constitutional rights of the electorate.
As the election approaches, the battalion reiterated its commitment to serving the people, securing communities and supporting the democratic aspirations of the Bangsamoro people toward a peaceful, stable and progressive BARMM.
