Tagum City — In a significant step towards promoting environmental sustainability, the Tagum City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) has distributed EcoBins, or P.E.T. (Polyethylene Terephthalate) Bottle Bins, to 45 private and public schools across the city. This initiative aims to encourage students and teachers to practice proper waste segregation and recycling.
The provision of EcoBins underscores the city’s commitment to reducing plastic waste and fostering a cleaner and greener environment. By instilling these practices within schools, CENRO hopes to cultivate environmentally responsible habits among the youth and educational communities.
“This initiative serves as a call to action for our students and teachers to actively participate in managing waste responsibly. Segregation and recycling are vital steps in reducing plastic waste and ensuring a clean environment for future generations,” a representative from CENRO said.
Each school is expected to utilize the EcoBins effectively, reinforcing lessons on waste management and environmental stewardship. Through this program, Tagum City sets an example of how local governments can engage educational institutions in addressing environmental challenges.
The schools have expressed their gratitude for the donation, pledging to integrate proper waste management practices into their daily routines and educational activities. Students are also encouraged to take these lessons beyond the classroom and into their homes and communities.
As plastic pollution continues to pose a global threat, initiatives like this highlight the importance of local actions in creating long-term, sustainable solutions.
