Davao de Oro – In a joint operation between the Davao de Oro Police Provincial Office and the Compostela Municipal Police Station, authorities successfully apprehended an individual in possession of an illegal firearm during a routine checkpoint in Barangay Ngan, Compostela, on Friday.
The operation, conducted at Purok 3, Barangay Ngan, led to the confiscation of a .45 caliber medallion pistol, along with live ammunition and a magazine. This seizure comes as the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Gun Ban remains in effect, strictly prohibiting the carrying of firearms during the election period.
The suspect was immediately taken into custody by the Compostela Municipal Police Station (MPS) for further investigation and the initiation of legal proceedings. Authorities have yet to disclose the identity of the individual, pending formal charges.
The COMELEC Gun Ban is part of heightened security measures implemented to ensure peaceful and orderly elections across the country. Violators face serious penalties, including imprisonment and disqualification from holding public office.
Police officials reiterated their unwavering commitment to enforcing the gun ban and maintaining peace and order in the province. “This operation underscores our dedication to upholding the law and protecting the community during this critical election period,” a police spokesperson stated.
As the election season progresses, law enforcement agencies continue to urge the public to cooperate with authorities and report any suspicious activities to help sustain a safe environment for all.
