In a bold demonstration of collaboration and commitment to public safety, the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) achieved a significant victory in the fight against illegal drugs with a successful operation on January 8, 2025. The joint effort took place at the Cong. Pedro P. Romualdo Complex, Ugmad Site, Balbagon, Mambajao, Camiguin.
The operation, spearheaded by the Mambajao Police Station and supported by PDEA Regional Office 10 (Camiguin Provincial Office), culminated in the arrest of Alias Nestor, a 57-year-old resident of Naasag, Mambajao. During the buy-bust operation, authorities confiscated a sachet containing suspected shabu, weighing approximately 1 gram, with a Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) estimated value of ₱6,800.
Alias Nestor now faces charges under Article II of Republic Act 9165, commonly known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. The law outlines strict penalties for the possession, sale, and distribution of illegal substances, reaffirming the government’s zero-tolerance stance on drug-related activities.
Police officials emphasized the importance of the operation as the first significant anti-drug success of the year. “This is a testament to the unwavering commitment of the PNP and PDEA to rid our communities of illegal drugs. Our coordination and collaboration are the backbone of these accomplishments,” said a spokesperson for the Mambajao Police Station.
This joint endeavor highlights the synergy between the PNP and PDEA in addressing the persistent challenge of illegal drug trade. By combining resources, intelligence, and manpower, the agencies are able to mount effective operations, ensuring safer communities across the region.
The arrest of Alias Nestor serves as a reminder to those engaged in the illegal drug trade that law enforcement agencies remain vigilant and proactive. As the year progresses, the PNP and PDEA reaffirm their commitment to intensify operations against illegal drugs, sending a clear message that such activities will not go unchecked.
Residents of Camiguin have expressed their support and appreciation for the authorities’ continued efforts to uphold peace and order. This operation, marking the first significant anti-drug activity for 2025, sets a strong precedent for what is hoped to be a year of sustained victories against illegal drugs across the country.
