Butig, Lanao del Sur – In a significant step towards fostering sustainable peace and development, two remote communities in Lanao del Sur—Barangays Ragayan and Sandab—received vital infrastructure projects on December 4. Each barangay was handed over a Multi-Purpose Building and a warehouse equipped with a solar dryer, marking the beginning of a transformative journey for the residents.

The turnover ceremony, a milestone for the beneficiaries, signifies the commitment of the Bangsamoro government and its partners to drive economic growth in the region. These facilities are expected to enhance livelihood opportunities, agricultural productivity, and community resilience.

The initiative is part of the Bangsamoro Camps Transformation Project (BCTP), a flagship program designed to convert former conflict-affected areas into peaceful and productive communities. Launched on July 4, 2023, the BCTP is implemented by the Bangsamoro Development Agency (BDA) in partnership with the Community and Family Services International (CFSI), with funding from the Bangsamoro Normalization Trust Fund (BNTF), administered by the World Bank.

Key stakeholders attended the ceremony, underscoring the collaboration between various sectors. Among them were officials from the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity (OPAPRU), representatives from the World Bank, the Bangsamoro Ministries of Public Works and Interior and Local Government, the security sector, local government units, and members of the Joint Task Forces on Camps Transformation from both the Government of the Philippines and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.

The event highlighted the importance of inclusive development and the collective efforts to build lasting peace in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

Through projects like the BCTP, the Bangsamoro government and its partners aim to create a foundation for sustainable development, empowering communities to break free from cycles of poverty and conflict while fostering a more peaceful and prosperous future.

As the people of Ragayan and Sandab begin utilizing these facilities, the hope is that their transformative journey will serve as a model for other communities in the Bangsamoro region.
