Zamboanga City, December 18, 2024 – The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Region IX, in collaboration with Mayor John Dalipe, awarded Student Monetary Assistance for Recovery and Transition (SMART) Educational Grants to 29 scholars during a ceremony held at the City Hall conference room.

The SMART grant, amounting to PHP 25,000 per student, is a one-time financial assistance aimed at alleviating the challenges faced by students in pursuing higher education amidst financial difficulties. The initiative is in accordance with Republic Act No. 7722, also known as the “Higher Education Act of 1994,” and is supported by CHED Resolution No. 547-2023.

The program was made possible through the efforts of Majority Leader and District II Representative Mannix Dalipe, who played a pivotal role in facilitating the initiative.

In his message, Mayor John Dalipe expressed gratitude to CHED Region IX Director Rody Garcia and Cong. Mannix Dalipe for their commitment to supporting the city’s youth. Mayor Dalipe reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to empowering students not just through financial support but also through programs and partnerships that enhance their learning experiences.

“As you work and build your bright future, know that the Dalipe Administration is behind you every step of the way. As your mayor, I’m here to help you not only financially, but also through programs, initiatives, and partnerships that can further enhance your learning experience,” Mayor Dalipe said.

He also emphasized the students’ vital role as future leaders and contributors to Zamboanga City’s progress, calling them “future leaders, innovators, and changemakers of our city.”

A meet-and-greet activity between the scholars, Cong. Mannix Dalipe, and Mayor John Dalipe is being planned to further foster engagement and dialogue.

The SMART grant initiative reflects the collective commitment of CHED and local leaders to empower students to overcome financial constraints and achieve academic success, ultimately contributing to the city’s development.
