ZAMBOANGA CITY — Police arrested a man identified as Rey-Rey in Barangay Bolong following a hot-pursuit operation after he allegedly attacked his own parents at their residence in Barangay Sangali, Zamboanga City, early Monday morning, November 2, 2026.

Personnel of Police Station 3 (PS-3) in Sangali, under the leadership of Police Captain Paul P. Ramayrat, conducted the operation and successfully apprehended the suspect in Barangay Bolong.

According to the initial report, the incident occurred at around 5 a.m. at the family’s residence in Purok 6, Star Apple Drive, Barangay Sangali. The suspect allegedly attacked both his father and mother, leaving the latter in critical condition and requiring immediate hospital treatment.

The circumstances surrounding the attack, including what triggered the alleged violence and the extent of the injuries sustained by the victims, have yet to be fully established.

Disturbing pattern of violence against family members

The incident has raised concern following reports of another similar case in District 2 a day earlier, November 1, involving a son who allegedly hacked his own father.

The two incidents have brought renewed attention to reports of violence within households, particularly cases in which children are accused of attacking their own parents.

Authorities are being urged to investigate these incidents thoroughly and determine whether substance abuse or other underlying factors may have contributed to the alleged attacks.

However, any possible connection to illegal drugs or drug-related activities must be established through evidence and proper investigation. The circumstances of each incident should be assessed independently rather than attributing the violence to drug use without confirmation.

The arrest of Rey-Rey marks the immediate police response to the Sangali incident, but questions remain about the motive behind the attack and the condition of the victims.

The investigation is expected to establish the full circumstances of the incident and determine the appropriate charges against the suspect.
