Camp Gallego, Pigcarangan, Tubod, Lanao del Norte – A 14-year-old male was apprehended during a routine checkpoint operation conducted by personnel from the Lala Municipal Police Station (Lala MPS) on December 28, 2024, in Purok Rambutan, Barangay Maranding, Lala, Lanao del Norte. The minor was found in possession of suspected illegal drugs with an estimated street value of PHP 170,000.
The suspect, a resident of Purok 3, Barangay Kalimudan, Salvador, Lanao del Norte, was operating a Yamaha Mio Soul I 125 motorcycle, a matte green and black combination, which lacked a plate number. Initially stopped for local ordinance violations, including not wearing a helmet and failing to present a valid driver’s license, the minor displayed visible uneasiness and hesitation during questioning.
His unusual behavior led officers to further inspect his belongings. While retrieving items from his black belt bag, he inadvertently exposed sachets of a suspected illegal substance, prompting his immediate arrest.
Items seized during the operation include:
- Five (5) heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing a white crystalline substance believed to be shabu (methamphetamine) with an approximate weight of 25 grams;
- One (1) black belt bag;
- One (1) motorcycle key;
- One (1) Yamaha Mio Soul I 125 motorcycle.
The confiscated drugs have been forwarded to the Provincial Forensic Unit for quantitative and qualitative analysis.
The minor is currently under the custody of Lala MPS for documentation, pending referral to the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) for appropriate intervention, in accordance with laws protecting minors. Cases for violations of Section 11, Article II of Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002) and other municipal ordinances are being prepared against him.
PCOL Roy A. Magsalay, Provincial Director of the Lanao del Norte Police Provincial Office (LDN PPO), lauded the Lala MPS personnel for their vigilance and prompt response.
“This operation demonstrates the commitment of the Lanao del Norte Police Provincial Office to combating illegal drugs and maintaining the safety and security of our communities,” Magsalay said.
Authorities continue to urge the public to cooperate in the fight against illegal drugs by reporting suspicious activities in their areas.
