The Protected Area Management Office (PAMO) of the Sarangani Bay Protected Seascape (SBPS) is inviting undergraduate students to participate in its research grant program. Selected proposals will receive funding of up to ₱50,000, offering young researchers a chance to contribute to the sustainable management of one of the Philippines’ vital marine ecosystems.
The Research Grant Policy for Sarangani Bay Protected Seascape aims to inspire student-led initiatives that enhance understanding of the bay’s ecosystem while providing solutions for its sustainable management. By fostering innovative studies, the program seeks to empower future environmental leaders and support long-term conservation goals.
Focus Areas for Research
Proposals should align with one of the 10 priority research areas identified by the PAMO:
- Institutional assessment, policy profiling, and evaluation (Socio-political).
- Viability of alternative livelihoods for coastal communities (Economic).
- Community and socio-economic profiling and evaluation (Economic).
- Payment for ecosystem services and valuation of natural resources (Economic).
- Carrying capacity study for various activities in SBPS (Environment).
- Profiling and assessment of biosecurity in SBPS (Environment).
- Profiling and evaluation of mitigation structures in SBPS (Socio-political).
- Projection, optimization, and targeting studies on resources (Environment).
